No! Not The Raiders Nation-The Filmmakers Nation. But………
The Filmmakers Nation, is not too dissimilar from the Raiders Nation. Some of you may not have a clue about what I’m talking about but if you’re a fan of the NFL you more then know what I’m talking about.
If you’re not a fan of the NFL, then here’s a little background.
The Oakland Raiders are known as the non confirming rebel organization of the NFL and their is a sub culture of Raider fans known as “The Raiders Nation” and as you can probably guess from the graphic image to the left that as a group they carry a similar kind of rebel motif and spirit.
So one day after we had already registered “The Filmmakers Channel” which plays the role of the aggregation platform, Tony and I were thinking about what kind of domain we’d want for the other leg of the network where we provide specific services to filmmakers and the words – “The Raiders Nation” just popped into my head.
Film Free or Die!
- As a subculture of Raider fans, the Raiders Nation is a “live free, or die” kind of bunch and so are independent filmmakers. Filmmakers want to be free to explore stories of their choosing that move them without kow-towing to someone else.
- The Raiders Nation are also a very passionate collection of fanatics who revel in living outside the mainstream. Aren’t filmmakers the same way? You certainly have to be passionate and almost fanatical about making films to do so much for (frequently) so little in return.
More then anything “The Raiders Nation” are a bunch who refuse to be molded by other peoples expectations – and though there are some characteristics and qualities about “The Raiders Nation” that some might not find to be overly, endearing one thing you can say, is that they’re nonconformists who fearlessly follow their hearts’ desires. That sounds like a filmmaker to me!
