2012

In this 2nd video on posting a video to the channel we’ll learn how to add and configure a featured image so the video shows up on the Featured Content Carousel on the home page as well as learn rounding out the DIY Customer Fields.

Additionally you’ll see how people can use the “Buy DVD” button to order a DVD directly from Kunaki thereby providing you with a completely hands off DVD on demand distribution solution and finally how to insert an image from a URL.

Again it’s important to re-iterate the value of thinking out your categories and before you start posting all of your content with special consideration to your users. How will they want to find what they’re looking for?

Adding a film, or video to the theme is pretty simple once you’ve done it a couple of times but there is some amount of understanding that you need to have. This is why I’ve broken down the task into a number of different video segments. This first video is very basic and more then the how to in terms of the mechanics, what you really should do first is to think about how you are going to layout your categories and your content.

So before you go hog wild posting all kinds of video you should have a clear idea of how you are going to categorize your content. Else, you’ll find yourself having to cover territory more then once and who needs the extra work.

Originally I thought that there would be no need to make this video, but in the interest of being thorough and because in the videos about posting your film to The Filmmakers Channel, I neglected to pay much attention to adding the embed code for your trailer to your listing, I decided to make this very short video. How To Post Your Film on Your Filmmakers Channel Free Website

Posting Your Film on your Free Filmmakers Channel Site:  Although the process for posting your film on your site is mostly the same as it is for posting your film on The Filmmakers Channel, channel, there are some very, very important differences. Here’s the highlights. Your free site is a WordPress site as is The Filmmakers Channel and you’ll create a WordPress post for your film just like on The Filmmakers Channel the key difference is how you set up your categories. For The Filmmakers Channel, channel site categories are somewhat obvious; documentaries, comedies, etc. However since your site will likely not have an aggregation of films (though we hope you have lots of them at some point) you will need to put some thought into how you categorize. You’ll want to be more creative then just creating a category called ‘ movie ‘ as that is not very Google friendly. So be prepared to put some creative energy into what you think your categories for your entire blog ought to be including for your film.

Picking Your WordPress Theme

Once your site is setup you can login and pick a Word Press theme. This video will demonstrate how to access your site in a way that conveniently also puts you in a place where you can manage your site and your film. Cool! Huh? Well I digress. Anyway, picking and activating a theme is easy. Now you’re going to be wondering (maybe) why we don’t have more themes available and the reason is that we want to produce videos to help you customize each without suffering technical consternation (sounds like a medical condition). Anyway, what we really recommend if you have the budget is to let us customize for you our Film Theme which is what this site is based and built especially for film and video. The great thing about this theme is that we put it together so it can be customized easily and for very little cost (about $250).

Fill out the form below once you have registered  your domain and you have configured your “A” record. If you haven’t configured your “A” record then your website will reside at a third level, or what is known as a sub domain.  This means your site will be at http://yoursite.thefilmmakerschannel.com. Once you’ve set your “A” record we’ll map your domain for you so your site resides at http://yoursite.com. So, in the interest of efficiency set up your “A” record first. If you haven’t done so or need a refresher, here’s a link to the  video about how to set up your “A” record.

WordPress Event Calendar Plug In, Usage and Configuration

Jun

2011

There are many different event calendar plug-ins for WordPress. This particular plug in was attractive to us because it is easy to create events for the calendar, has support for a “Big Calendar” which  you can add to a Page, or Post as short code as well as support for a calendar and list of events as a Widget. This all gives me and you the flexibility when you’re deciding how to present the calendar and calendar of events to your users.

This video is actually videos. The first video is all about some of the background and set up, as well as how to add widgets to sidebars and the second video in the playlist  is all about how to actually create an event for the calendar.

If you have any questions about these videos, please leave them as comments below.

Word Press comes with a built in photo gallery. Once you figure it out it’s really quite easy to use. The trick is getting the images you want attached to a post properly attached. This video walks you through the two different ways for attaching images to posts and then how to insert the image gallery into your post.

This short video will demonstrate exactly how to use the built in capability in Word Press to add as many photos as you want and when you hook up the Word Press Photo Gallery with the Light Box plug in you can create a really nice experience for your users.

One other tip to help you create a great user experience is to size your pictures properly before adding them to your post.
